Distance: 2.9 miles (4.7 km)
Start Point: Lynton Cliff Railway Station, EX35 6HU
Difficulty: Easy – Mostly level route with a tarmac surface, suitable for many walkers.
This short and easy walk runs along the high cliffs between Lynton and the Valley of Rocks. The path is fairly flat and paved, making it accessible for those with limited mobility or people pushing prams. However, because of narrow sections, it’s not ideal for wheelchairs.
The Valley of Rocks is a great place to visit with kids — the unusual rock formations come with plenty of local legends, and there’s a friendly herd of wild goats that roam the area. The walk is especially beautiful in autumn when the hills are covered with rusty bracken, purple heather, and golden gorse.
Dogs are welcome on this route, making it a good choice for pet owners. You can also check out more dog-friendly walks in the area through the South West Coast Path’s dog walking guide.
There are plenty of options for food and drink nearby. Enjoy local dishes made from fresh ingredients — straight from the land and sea — and sample regional ales, ciders, wines, or spirits. Whether you prefer a relaxed pub, a stylish restaurant, or a seaside café, you’ll find something to suit your taste.
If you’re planning to stay longer, the area offers a variety of accommodation. From charming B&Bs and self-catering cottages to luxury hotels and campsites, you’ll have no trouble finding a comfortable place to rest.
