Short Coastal Loop with Big Views

This is a compact yet rewarding walk above the rugged cliffs of Hartland Point, where the lighthouse stands sentinel over one of the most treacherous stretches of coastline in the South West. The views are spectacular, especially on a blustery autumn day when seabirds ride the winds and waves crash far below.

Children will enjoy spotting the remains of the Johanna cargo ship, which ran aground over 30 years ago and whose rusting frame can still be seen on the rocks. The walk is especially lively in autumn, with flocks of migrating seabirds – including terns, skuas, shearwaters, and the occasional rare gull – passing along the coast.
